1) Remove the belly ring – yes this one should be obvious
2) Remove the top ball and snip the end to the desired length.
Use clean, sharp scissors and cut it on a sharp diagonal not
straight across. Avoid taking off the charm / dangle end of any
belly ring. *If you have a maternity belly ring, be sure not to cut it too short. You want to leave plenty of growing room.
3) Push the ball firmly back onto the bar and turn slowly until you
feel it catch. It may take you a few times. It may look a little
crooked at first. It will look great when you are finished.
4) Twist the ball on and off a few turns to set the new threads
5) Take the ball completely off and sanitize with warm water and
antibacterial soap, then reinsert your new belly ring.
Rethreading Acrylic Balls
The process is the same for
rethreading the acrylic balls.
These have no metal inserts & are
a little harder to work with than the
steel balls.
I recommend using a steel ball to
"set" the new threads, then put the
acrylic ball back on. This is the easiest way to do it.
The PTFE can sometimes become stripped out - the ball just
keeps turning and does not catch. If this happens, just cut a tiny
bit off the end at a sharp angle and try again.
When sanitizing acrylic belly button rings, DO NOT use alcohol.
Use warm soapy water
